|

Instructional Unit in Spanish or English.
Running Time: 36 min.
Intermediate/Advanced Level
Year: 2009
The second part of this series takes us from Vitoria to
Santiago de Compostela. After a brief stop in Guernica,
sacred city of the Basques, we inspect the remains of an
ancient Roman “mansion.” Along the route we visit several
Romanesque churches some of which display images of
erotic art. Others have old cemeteries with ancient
anthropomorphic tombs. In several old towns we see
remains of Roman salt flats. Then we visit the Templar
Castle of Ponferrada and the Roman gold mines of Las
Médulas. We then proceed to Lugo to see the Roman
walls. Soon we arrive in Santiago de Compostela and visit
the cathedral where we see the famous “botafumeiro” in
action. After a visit to Finisterre, we return to Santiago to
enjoy folk music and dancing in the Plaza del Obradoiro.
Our pilgrimage ends with a display of fireworks celebrating
the Festival of Santiago at midnight on July 24th.
