Diego Velázquez was the greatest exponent of Spanish art
during the “Siglo de Oro.” In the series called “Bodegones”
we see typical scenes of Spanish life in the 17th century. In
Madrid Velazquez painted many canvasses to cover the
walls of palaces built in the new capital. His portraits of the
royal family are among his best works. In his later years,
Velazquez painted two of his masterpieces the “Surrender
of Breda” and the “Maids of Honor” which are explained in
detail in this DVD. Velazquez, along with El Greco and
Francisco Goya, is truly one of Spain’s greatest painters.
