Spain from the pre-Romanesque churches in Cataluña and
Asturias to the masterpieces of the Romanesque period in
the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries. Besides interpreting the
symbolism of the facades of Santa María de Ripoll, Santa
María la Real in Sangüesa, the Royal Pantheon in León
and the Porch of Glory in Santiago de Compostela, we
study the symbolism of the chrismon, the orientation of
churches, the importance of relics and pilgrimages and the
influence of the monks of Cluny. This is truly one of the
most exciting and beautiful periods in the history of Spanish
art and architecture.
